What is the make of your DVD-RW? post some more details perhaps then am gonna help you

Have you installed the CD - Driver into your Computer

And Your Xp or operating system recognizes your Driver

Also the Pluged your Driver well into your PC try inserting a CD

You haven't installed the Driver Correctly - First See the Manual

well there are many possiblities,
1. You would have changed the bus connections of HD and DVD RW, while doing cleaning or checking.
2. Your Bus connections to the DVD RW wont be plugged correctly.. I mean a loose connection
3. Your writer Lens works properly for atleast 150 to 200 writings, But the maintanance does the remaining

First of all ensure all those three things and reply.. And also check ur device manager, whether the DVD RW hardware is detectable.. Do you have any other secondary Driver ???

i got dell inspiron 1520 with PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P... in new istalled XP everything works fine... and i have same problem in VISTA premium. Nero after write recognize DVDRW like DVD- in other programs is same problem... same problem is with my ext. USB MULTI DVDRW.... and no error in device manager... writting normal dvds or cds is no problem... just dvdrw.

Does your dvd drive support dvd-rw???
not all of them do!!!

Why don't you try using a diferrent program other than nero to see if that might fix your problem.

it just might be a DVD problem, have you try using the device in another computer?

I'm a little confused; is the DVD (device) not recognising the disc or is the computer OS not recognising the device (DVD)? If the OS isn't recognising the device (DVD) then it's either a driver problem or the device is faulty. If the device isn't recognising the disc then it could be the device or the disc type being used. Not all discs are created equal. Have you tried other quality discs?

Sorry, just looking for clarification to better understand and assist.
