help with .mkv converting plz

i have a few movies that r in a .mkv file but want to make it so i can watch it on my dvd but cannt find a way to convert the file to a divx or a avi or any other thing that an xbox or a normal dvd can read. can any1 help me with the program i need and how i get it please.

thank you so much that actually helped in a few areas i was having problems with and couldnt figure out what was needing to fix it. audio was a big problem so thanks again.

just found out that i can now convert .mkv files but now i need a converter that will convert other files aswell to divext or to a format that a dvd / xbox 360 can read. i have other files like mp4, mkv(still), rmvb and some others but it would be easier if there was just 1 program that would convert them all instead of having like 5 or so different programs. any1 have any ideas that would help me get these files converted without having a whole lot of programs if not then at least a few and how i get them please. i would be most greatful for any help and info yall can give. thanks

[but it can't convert .rmvb videos... i'm still looking for such a prog myself...]
the xbox 360 supports .wmv, h.264 and mpeg-4 videos
