it all depends on what you are compressing. AVI's are already compressed, but if you have a bunch of data you can use gsmbac's suggestion and use KGB Archiver, or WinRAR, WinZIP, WinACE... there are a lot of archiving programs found on these forums. just do a search for the one you want.
