Can i able to install windows vista on external hard disk if yes how?

because i tried but there i got an error during installation an error said unable to install in this drive because setup doesnt support configuration or its connected with usb

i want to install windows vista on external hard disk

No am not installating on virtual machine ...i was installing fresh copy on external hard disk but during installation that windows vista setup ask me to where u want to install windows vista and i select external hard disk drive then i got the message

the message was that - Windows cannot be installed to this disk.Setup does not support configuration of or installation to disks connected through a USB or IEEE 1394 port.

now i dont know what to do please help ... read and tell me what should i do

Installing vista on an external HDD "IS" called a Virtual machine. It's "Virtual" meaning... temporarily simulated or extended by computer software. That is what you wanted... and That's the only way you can do it.

If you don't know what a virtual machine is... then you will not know how to accomplish this.

i was saying that i dont want to install windows vista on virtual pc 2004, 2005 , Vmware Workstation 5 or 6, Virtual Box , Paralles Desktop or there are alots of many programs ...

i want to know that can i able to install windows vista on external hdd without using any programss??

programs like - virtual pc, Vmware Workstation , Virtual Box Paralles Desktop ...
