How to get Spaces unstuck on Snow Leopard
Many users have been having troubles with Spaces and Snow Leopard. This is a bug with Spaces that hasn't been fixed by Apple yet. This bug basically shows the Spaces icon in the middle and never disappears. This really sucks if you use Spaces a lot. I was getting tired of this bug so I wrote this quick and simple app to fix Spaces when it gets stuck. This program basically kills the dock and while doing that, it fixes your Spaces problem. So if you have been having troubles with Spaces look at the post located below. Dock Killer 1.2 How to use this application Drag the application to your Applications folder Have a shortcut on your dock for quick access (Optional) Launch the program when your Spaces gets stuck Leave the rest to the program. How the program works The program simply launches Terminal and kills the dock. After it kills the dock it quits Terminal and quits itself. No need to close any additional programs after opened. Similar Issue
I too have a Spaces bug related issue... My keyboard often locks up...
I know some of you are going to suggest that it is a keyboard issue, but I have tried 3 different keyboards, two of the older styles and the new slim keyboard and they all have the same issue. Even disconnecting/reconnecting the USB cable does not work. The USB mouse or Wireless mouse are unaffected. The only solution is to log out and log back in. Thankfully this is not too difficult (without having to shut down any applications) using the "Show Fast User Switching Menu" in the Login Options of the Accounts preference pane. Once your keyboard fails, select the Login Window from the Accounts Icon on your menu bar, your User will log you out; but login out in this fashion keeps all you have running in the background (even downloads). Then once you are in the login window, select your account and log back in. All is as it should be. Hope this helps some of you. |

I do not get the Spaces icon display that some users have reported. But through my research this is a common occurrence with some machines using 10.6 and Spaces. Apple is aware of the issue but as yet has not repaired this bug.
I constantly use spaces so it is difficult to say when it happens. All I know is that at some point during the week (3 to 4 times a week - not every day) it will lock up. My mouse continues to work but no keyboard input. Just Google "keyboard problems with spaces in 10.6" and you will get thousands of hits - including the Apple Discussion Boards. I have other 2 other machines running 10.6.2 that have not had this bug, only this one. This occurs only on my Mac Pro - 8 Core with 10GB of RAM and 4TB of Hard Disk space. (I tested the RAM and the Hard Disk following the first lockup thinking it was a hardware issue). Next time it occurs I intend to try the "Dock Killer" application that "allejo" has so thoughtfully provided. I'll report my results when it occurs again. |

nemesit, have you tried killing the dock with Dock Killer? Spaces and the keyboard are both related to the dock somehow. So if the Dock is killed and started up again, Spaces and the keyboard should be unstuck... Dock Killer is not a fix but simply a workaround until Apple fixes the issue.
