Hackintosh 10.5.3 Combo Update by Mysticus v1.3



Complete 10.5.3 Package including extra drivers an patches,
fixed original ahci drivers, hdd icons, 10.5.3 nvinject...


What's New in v1.3:
+ fixed nvinject installation
+ fixed various scripts that looked naughty
+ added ps/2 and trackpad patches for laptops
+ added adi 198b driver (taruga v4)
+ added Laptopdisplay driver
(dont even know if it works or not but hopefully it works, and try it on your own risk!)
+ 7600 GT gfx strings added
+ minor and cosmetic fixes...
+ system.kext issue is also solved so whatever system.kext version you have,
it will not be able to create usb mount issue no matter how hard it tries anymore.

Hopefully this will be the last edition for update package 10.5.3
If sound ethernet wifi still doesnt work? as you expected, please
check appropriate topics for those, usually fixing those is not
very hard when there are different workarounds or special install
methods exist... Also, if you point me the file, I am planning to
make an=after=install/update package for all the requested drivers
that are pointed (links!! and info as well pls) to me, I will make a all
in one install package. So after updates/ you can bring them back
quickly. Think of it as a database installer which will grow over time
like HCL...

1) 10.5.3 OSX Combo Update and Fix 10.5.3 are necessary and selected

2) Kernels : By default nothing is selected, however update package will install 9.2.0 Sleep Kernel automatically, and if anyone wants something else, check your desired Kernel Selection, including 9.3.0 Vanilla. Vanilla is not default anymore.

3) Drivers: By default, no audio/video/network selected, but chipset drivers selected, unless you know what you are doing, dont touch chipset selections. Install anything you need.
Special Note to Nvidia VGA Owners: 10.5.3 Nvinject drivers has been added, now you can have QE/CI back on track

4) Patches:
Mac.Pro Named Smbios by Mac.Nub is selected and works quite well, however if you know what you are doing, you can change this setting to any other, but suggest not to touch it.
USB: If you have issue with your High Speed Bus (aka USB 2.0 Controller) you can use this driver. However do not confuse this driver as USB NOT MOUNTING fix. This is totally different. Make sure you understand the difference. Also reminding that the whole update package is usb mount fixed, so whatever kernels you choose it will not have usb mount issue.

5) Usefull Program: By default none is selected. I recommend all of them.
Candybar: to change/sort your OSX icons.
Colloquy: IRC client
Kernel Installer: Very simple kernel install program for newbies
Kext Helper: Very simple kext (aka driver)l install program for newbies
Perian: Various video/audio codecs for Quicktime. Think of it as multipack codec pack to play majority of the video files, in quicktime without need of any 3rd party apps.
VLC: This is all-in one multi purpose video/audio player. Even if you have perian, this is one of must-haves...

6) Final Fix: By default selected. It is needed!!! if you uncheck this option, AHCI will not work...

Note1: Addition to gfx and kernel related changes, ICH ids added (except Jmicron ids, sorry) to new driver and hdd icon problem is solved for Intel Chipsets. Credit to Dense and Cyclonefr for pointing these out
Note2: Please make a habit for booting -v -f after you change drivers and/or major updates installed and use disk utility to fix permissions. -v -f only at first reboot after
update, no need it afterwards... However, I fixed everything right now, so you dont need to do anything, just restart and enjoy...

Note2: Update is fixed once again, for leftover scripts to delete AHCI files. Now AHCI and HDD icons fixed for good. Also permissions fixed during update, and previous caches removed so everything is good to go after restart. No need for -v -f.

Treat this as a TEST... Although safe, make sure you back up your important stuffs before updates, and test it on an additional partition... Before making this update main stream...

A SMALL GUIDE FOR PEOPLE TO TEST DIFFERENT STUFFS W/O BRICKING THE SYSTEM BEFORE MAKING IT MAIN STREAM:

Before you ask how to have multiple partitions?, clue, start fresh! use your whatever dvd to make brand new installationg. Before you start your installation, take time to go to utilities/disk utility menu
and use disk utility to partition your hdd. This is very important for your future developments and for a better rock solid foundation!
Suggestions:
+ If you have bigger than 80gb hdd space (also dont really plan to dual boot on this with vista, nothing more than xp is gonna flush the system under 80gb space). Choose 3 partition scheme (1-main 2-test 3-downloads or backup or windows-if you want dual booting)
+ name the partitions as 1st main 2nd test 3rd download or backup or windows 4th windows (if you plan to have 4th partition)
+ partition types for main test backup is osx journaled extended, and windows as dos fat
+ size for 80 gb... 25-25-25 gb (80gb = ~ 75 gb)
+ partition type from options menu: MBR!!!! (dont use guid if you wanna have peaceful system until you learn a lot, it will just cause you more trouble!)
+ now proceed to install on main system
+ system booted fine? accounts created, pass assigned? have all the drivers working? Stable system?
+ proceed to real guide for CLONING the system

0-) Beauty of this is you dont need to use dvd now, only diskutility, it will do Live Cloning when you are in osx already
1-) Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility)
2-) From the left side, Click On the name of the current OSX HDD/Partition
3-) From the right side, Click on the Restore tab
4-) On the right side, you should see Source and Destination/Target paths
5-) From the left side, drag and drop the name of your current working OSX partition (main as in this example) to the Source path on the right side
6-) From the left side, drag and drop the name of your new OSX partition (test as in this example) to the Destination/Target path on the right side
7-) Do not choose anything on the bottom side unless you didnt erase the new hdd's new osx partition.
8-) Click on the Restore button on the right bottom side
9-) Now wait for the Restore to finish. (5-10 mins depending on your programs etc the partition size...)
10-) Once it is finished, on your new hdd you have the same exact copy of your current working osx partition but not the bootloader which you dont need anyway...

What have you done? You did clone your working partition to another partition without the bootloader. Additional bootloader is not needed when you are on the same hdd and when you have already one bootloader.
How does it work than? very simple! At boot screen countdown, press f8 key!! it should show you a list of partitions. To boot to main, just choose main and press enter, to boot to your test (clone of main) partition, choose the test partition and press enter (how to choose? use arrow keys damn it, dont ask this kind of funny questions smile.gif )

Now boot to your test partition, and install anything you want... reboot, press f8 again, and choose test again, to see if it will boot? Is it bricked? no problem, just restart, and use main partition, it will boot fine! Then proceed to disk utility, first use erase menu to wipe the partition, and use the guide again to clone the main partition... no need to boot to dvd and reinstall entire system... this way you will always have solid system! as long as you do test your updates/ and suspicious installs on test partition... smile.gif

Sounds Hard to me? Well you didnt even try to read and follow the instruction and try it all, how can you know it is hard without trying damn it? smile
