foo fighters - live from wembley stadium, london (june 7, 08) 
After nearly a week in the making, Wembley was transformed into a spectacular music venue for the Foo Fighters. The stage itself took 72 hours to build with concert organisers working through the night. A first for the new Wembley, the stage was designed to be partially 'in the round' and was a huge 100ft (30m) in diameter. A long stage thrust allowed Dave Grohl to get closer to the crowd and the centre of the main stage revolved. The innovative design also included a stealth video screen wrapping around the stage.
The Foo Fighters - made up of lead man Dave Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel, drummer Taylor Hawkins and guitarist Chris Shiflett - returned to Wembley after performing at Live Earth in 2007. The band had promised to return to headline at the stadium and this concert did not disappoint.
After an incredible first night, the band returned to Wembley the next night for the second of their back-to-back gigs. There had been rumours of a special guest joining the Foo Fighters for the show and the crowd went mad as members of Led Zeppelin came onto the stage.
Guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones joined the Foo Fighters for two tracks - 'Rock and Roll' and 'Ramble On'.
Grohl had earlier hinted of the special performance by saying, "We are going to do something special tonight that we have never done before. Tonight this will be the show we are talking about for the next 20 years."
Grohl said: "Tonight playing here at Wembley Stadium is an honour and if we didn't take advantage of this opportunity we'd be crazy. We knew from the beginning this wasn't going to be another outdoor show, we have been planning this for six months."
Grohl thanked the crowd for their support and joked that he had "86,000 backing singers" as the crowd sang along to every song.
As the show came to an end, Grohl was overwhelmed with emotion and called the night "the greatest day of my whole entire life.
