I'm looking for the film "Magic". It was made in 1978 and stars Anthony Hopkins as a ventriloquist.

Magic (1978)

A disturbed celebrity magician (Hopkins) finds himself at the mercy of his murderous dummy, Fats. Seeking refuge from his new found fame, he heads to the isolated mountain retreat run by his high school love, Peggy, in hopes of starting a new life; but finds that Fats has no intentions of letting him off so easy.
